The sculpture began with a block of limestone. The stone was cut to an initial, though still unclear, idea of a figure straining
to hold a concept of God.
The idea did not take full shape until the actual piece progressed. At that point a sketch was made.
Detailed drawings of the wings, legs and head were made and used as
templates for further carving.
The final sculpture is in Portland limestone with marble wings.
